DB2@PUCPR

The DB2 User Group at PUCPR also called 'DB2@PUCPR' started its activities in October 2007, when the first members meeting was scheduled.

Formed by students of different courses such as System Information, Computer Sciences and Specialization in Databases and supported by the university teachers, the group members decided to initially study for the DB2 Fundamentals Exam 730.

Every meeting, one or more members show for the group a section of the program for the exam. This is a very interesting opportunity for all the members to share the knowledge with the group, which has been the most important approach.

In early 2008 a few members volunteered to develop the group web site (http://www.db2atpucpr.com/), which is available in Portuguese and also in English. The main propose for the web site is to concentrate the information demanded by the group.

Meetings, photos, schedule, files repository and also a forum are some of the web site features.

The 2008 meetings have started in 08th March, 2008 looking for the DB2 Fundamentals Exam 730. Almost all the content of the web site is available for everyone which desires to learn DB2.

Current activities
DB2 Certification Contest

Since april, 2008, 6 group members started to participate in the 'DB2 Certification Contest', the IBM iniciative to assist people interested in become a DB2 Fundamentals Certified Professional.

The DB2 Certification Contest deals exactly with the preparation for exam 730, which has been the group's main activity since it's beggining.
All material produced during this event will be shared to help other people to preparing themselves for this exam.
DB2 book Translation

Wellington Sampaio Martins, one of the DB2@PUCPR leaders, was part of Brazilian's team for Portuguese translation of the book "Getting Started with DB2 Express-C".

Wellington, Caroline Beatriz Perlin, and another alumni from Brazilian university UFSCar "Universidade Federal de São Carlos" with help of Andrea Rodacki from IBM did entire translation.

The translation will be available soon for download and will be the first DB2 book in Portuguese!

Next Steps
Integration with other DB2 user groups

DB2@PUCPR wants to share its knowledge and expertise with other DB2 user groups around the world. This can be done through the website, which contains a forum functionality allowing everyone to post. Another interesting approach would be online meetings between other groups around the world to discuss topics related to DB2.
Internal Learning groups

As soon as the first members become DB2 Fundamentals certified professionals the group will have 2 subgroups.
The first one will study and prepare themselves for DB2 9 DBA certification exam 731, which is the next step in DB2 certifications.
While the second one will start studying and preparing its members for DB2 9 Fundamentals certification exam 730.

Someday the group will have 4 main groups studying and preparing its members for each DB2 certification.
At this situation DB2@PUCPR will be considered as a reference at PUCPR for DB2 studies and trainning.
